My wife wants to buy an isight and use msn messenger to video conference to her sister and niece. Will isight work with messenger?

Also her sister in on a PC. How about that? Just wondering if anyone has any experience of getting this sort of thing to work.

MSN Messanger on the PC supports webcams. The mac version at the present time does not.

Yahoo Messanger is the only client that current supports video on both Windows and Mac. No sound is supported though.

Hopefully one day they add support for video in MSN.

I only use Skype these days and have been for the past several years.

I also agree about Skype.. been using it exclusively for a couple years now and am very happy with it. I actually offer some online self development courses exclusively using Skype, with clients all over the word and Skype stays the course consistently... as long as client's own ISP and connectivity is good, no problems (I have extreme Rogers modem).

I too use sightspeed and a Logitec webcam to talk to my sons who are both on PCs. I understand skype works well too although I have not tried it.

Video Conference on Mac

I have been a long time Skype user due to its great international rates. However, when video conferencing Skype often freezes or stalls. For example if you minimize Skype to look at something else, then try to pull Skype back up again, the audio works but the video freezes. Also there can be static or a ringing noise in the background due to poor quality.

I recommend Google Video, a free feature recently integrated with Gmail and Google Chat. The quality is better from my experience (less ambient noise). The connection is more stable. It hogs less RAM. Basically, it is built into your browser, but it also has a pop out feature. There is a full screen mode as well.

I hope to write a full review sometime soon on my blog. I will continue to use Skype as my preffered VOIP.
