I've heard/read a lot about how disappointed most mac users are with iMovie '08 - however if you want to use one of the new tapeless camcorders that record directly to HDD, DVD or SD Memory Cards (ie. Panasonic SDR-S10) then you may not have a choice.

camcorders

I just bought a new Canon ZR800 miniDV NTSC camcorder, with DV(firewire), external mic plug as well as internal stereo mic, with AV plug, and I just tested it with iMovie '08, as well as Quicktime and it works great on my MacMIni. I'd like to test it with Skype next.

Cheers

How do you like that ZR800? I've been eyeing that one myself. Futureshop just opened here in town and they have them in stock. I'm particularly wondering how its low-light performance is.

I think it works great. Plugged it into my MacMini, recorded with Quicktime and then with iMovie'08. Quicktime creates a much smaller file and the results are just what I wanted!

I had looked at the Canon ZR800 at The Source (old Radio Shack) and then Future Shop and Future Shop was $40.00 less expensive then Source, and you do have to buy your DV-Firewire cable separately, but its only about $26.00.

Using Quicktime Broadcaster, you can create/broadcast live feeds which is great for me as I'll use them in my presentations/seminars.

I'm quite excited with the possibilities now.

Also, if you do visit a Future Shop, ask if they have an "open box", which is only than someone may have bought an item and returned it, it is still new, under warranty but can be reduced in price. I've gotten many good deals that way, but there was no open box for the Canon this time 'round.

Have fun. Now I'm going to learn all I can about using iMovie'08 for other projects, and who knows what other applications I can learn to use... seriously... any ideas on other apps to use it with?? :)

Cheers
