... this:

1) Application that will allow me to have more than one dock on screen at the same time - one on the bottom, one on the side.

2) If it exists, somehow to put a bar spacer in the dock; like the one between applications and files/folders on the dock.

What would you recommend?

Take a look at DragThing

Hit versiontracker and search for "Dock". there are many options to consider. if you wan a consistent Dock UI, I think that Dragthing doesn't conform to it. it is a very functional piece off shareware, however, serving Mac users back into the OS 8 days.
