Huh. Interesting read.

Are You Charging Your MacBook on the Wrong Side?

Yes, you read that headline correctly. There is apparently a “right” way and a “wrong” way to connect devices to a MacBook with Thunderbolt/USB-C ports on both sides. Doing it wrong can affect your computer’s performance.

While I don't have that issue on my 2015 model MBP Core i7 with 1TB SSD and 16 GB RAM, I only have two USB ports, one on each side. It must charge from the left but I have two useless Thunderbolt 2 ports there as well and have never owned anything that uses them. Ditto for the HDMI port on the right. Such a waste when I could really use more USB ports.

Only one option on my 13" MacBook pro. I do miss the old mag chargers. Those are still a thing of beauty.

Beauty and frustration, wonderlings. I don't think any of my Mac laptops over the years with MagSafe went more than a year without having to replace the charger. Incredibly fragile wires from the brick to the charging head. Damn expensive, too....

Not from my experience. Still have a 15" MacBook Pro that I use to run my wide format eco solvent printer and no issues with the charger ever. Used to be my work computer. A MacBook Air still on the original and my sister has an older MacBook Pro still using the magsafe. Could just be luck though, not like 3 computers is a good indicator, just not had any issues or no anyone who has.

When do we get wireless charging and just place it on a large desk pad size charger??

I still have two chargers in use every day, one that came with my 2015 MBP and another from a machine even before that one that requires a $10 adapter to fit my current MBP. Although I must admit the cord on that last model is heavily wrapped with tape which I did the moment it began to show signs of distress. Been fine ever since.
