Thanks for reading this everyone, and GOD I hope this doesn't sound to bloody stupid!

Im not new to the whole MAC thing, in fact i've been an addict for over 15 years! What I am new at is backing up my DVD's...I have a stupid amount of DVD movies and want to get rid of them, but in turn would like to back up some of my favs to DVD!

Im having a hard time find a good software to copy the dvd to my computer and compress it and then be able to copy it back to a 4gb blank dvd! OR even better have the software be able to copy my dvd in its actual size and quality, then be able to burn it to a Dual Layer DVD!

Can anyone suggest the software I should use to RIP the original DVD I want to back up and then whatever software I would need to copy it to a black DVD (either through compression) or directly to a dual layer dvd?

I'm not really understanding what you want,..because, on one hand you say you have this ridiculous amount of DVD movies that you would like to get rid of,yet, you want to burn duplicates of them on dual layer DVD's. That now leaves you with double the amount.

Best software to rip those DVDs is Mac The Ripper which is free.

Then you can use Toast to compress and burn the resulting VIDEO_TS file from MTR. It's about $79 US.

Or alternately LiquidCD which is also free.

You'll want to double-check me on this, but you are not allowed to copy your DVDs and then get rid of (sell) the originals.

You're certainly entitled under Canadian law to make a "backup copy" of the DVD, but if you sell or give away your legal copy, you must also rid yourself of the backup.
