Hardware requirements for Skype

I'm thinking of using Skype with am E-Mac 700 MHz still running OS 10.2

A few questions came up:

Will the Skype software even run on 10.2?

Do you need a special Skype headphone or will a regular one do?

Can I use a USB headphone? This would be USB 1.1 on that Mac I believe.

Could I use the E-Mac speakers and a separate mike?

And in general - any other inexpensive options for lengthy long distance use within Canada.

You're cooked: it requires 800MHz and 10.3.9 ... time for an upgrade: new iMacs apparently in less than 10 days!
Thanks for the input, but Upgrade???

Are you kidding? :D

This Mac has just barely been broken in. I'm sure it's only about 5 years old - good for another five at least.

I'll load 10.4 and see if the 700 MHz vs 800 MHz makes any difference.

Any information/comments on the other hardware questions?
Two of your questions I can answer :)

1. You do not need special Skype headphones, any 'phones would work.
2. You can use your built-in speakers and a separate mic.

Re. USB headphones, I know you can use them, but I am not sure if they need USB 2.0 or if 1.1 will do. What does the first gen Mac Mini have? It works with that.

Cheers
