So this is totally NOT a mac related post but I think everybody here is well versed in computers and will give me the right answer.

My sisters Dell X200 was ripped off two days ago.Is there anyway to find this thing if the arse goes onlne? She I've read of laptop protection software but she doesn't have any of that.Is there anything built in to the bios or something?Maybe through XP?

Thanx!

ouch - sorry to hear but unless she took measures before hand, i don't think windows xp itself has anything that'll help. I know that IBM computers are nearly impossible to startup/format if you don't know the password. I'm don't know if it's the same for Dells.

Well, make the police report, claim the insurance and maybe your sister can get a powerbook or ibook ;) consider it a blessing!

Darnit - thought this thread was on my Powerbook->Garming topic. oh well...

One would think that Microsoft's ridiculous authorization scheme might come in handy here, should the fool ever have to reactivate Word or Windows or whatever....
