New iMac will come in two sizes: 20-inch display, and 24-inch display. Both will be glossy. Customers say they love glossy displays
Ok Steve, not everyone likes the glossy screens.

Thanks

Also of note is the fact that the new MacBook like keyboard does not feature a separate Number Pad. Yuk!!
The wireless keyboard does not have a keypad, probably so it's more comfy to sit on your lap while you kick back, or if you use the iMac as the home theatre. Very cool. The wired keyboard has a keypad.

I think they're trying to keep professionals away from the iMac. :) I kinda regret not getting the glossy screen on my MacBook Pro.

At least you're getting a 20" for about the same price of 17".

That's really gotta hurt anyone trying to sell their "old" 17" or 19" iMac. :D

There was a 19" iMac? ;)

As per the glossy screens, let the bitching commence! Wee!

(It's really not that bad, especially not on a desktop. Find a nice place where the angle of light doesn't screw you with the glossy screen, and off you go. iMacs, unlike MacBooks, aren't constantly on the move with different sources of lighting and lighting angles. Isn't that the biggest complaint with glossy screens? Lighting glare?)

or create a demand for them as the case may be.
;)
Holy glare! It looks like the photographer was deliberately trying to get some glare shots (at least I hope so!) and the environment is not the best, but man oh man that glare is bad.

I was going to upgrade a client of mine to the new 20" iMac, but he has a hard time seeing even on a normal display. Since the price dropped on the Minis, perhaps a Mini + 22" matte screen is a better option for the same price (minus iSight and only 160GB drive of course).

Wow is that an iPhone next to the iMac?? :D
We're in the process of ordering a few of the 24" models. The pricing is truly incredible now. I'm very glad Apple has adjusted the pricing to reflect the current exchange rates!

In any case, I think the glossy screen will be nice but some will never be happy. I was really hoping however for a totally black face on the front instead of the black surround. If they kept the back aluminum as well as the sides it would have made up for the difference. Having a black face would have made it look more like the iPhone (hell, even a nice chrome surround on the front would have completed the illusion).

Anyhow, moving the 20" model over to the wife so I can get some of this new Core 2 Duo Extreme goodness!! Anyone else notice this is the first time they're using the desktop version of the Conroe? :)
Am I the only one still waiting for Ashton Kutcher to bust into the scene and tell us we've all been punk'd?

Seriously - whoever was responsible for this hideous fiend should serve at least 5 years in prison for designing under the influence
Lot of glare on a 24". Apple may regret this.

We've got one each 20" and 24" matte Core2 we'll be moving out at sharp pricing with 3 gigs RAM for the designers.
Our pain - your gain :(
That black band around the screen is really ugly.

jb.

That fiend is Steve Jobs. He may have been forced to eat a nice juicy steak before hand... all that animal fat suddenly entering his digestive system.

I like the new iMac...

You're my hero Steve. Take that Dell fanboys.

If the iMacs' LCDs are IPS panels, what a complete waste by glossing them!

Why would Apple not give the consumer a choice of screen types? The iMac is not purely a "fun" or budget machine like the MacBook.

I wish that glossy screens would just die out already.
ON the plus side.....a designer can have a 215T Samsung 2 gigs of RAM and a 20" iMac Santa Rosa as a palette monitor and still have change left from $2k.

Kinda sweet set up for relatively cheap....lot of workspace.
I cannot believe that the glass screen

is there for recycling purposes . This is just a screen for future touch fingers to caress IMHO What is with the comment by somebody that the new low profile keyboard has no numeric key pad ?

There is nothing in this upgrade that would make me do so from my current 20" core 2 duo with 2 gigs of memory

Yes it is sleek and slim but the main bonus of iLife etc etc are not programmes that
I really use so the value is not there for me . I was pleased to see those who KNEW that the Mac Mini was going down the tube and end of line etc etc etc were proven wrong
