Another rumour, but still interesting:

Powerlogix may be planning to introduce G5 upgrades for Mirrored Drive Door Models... perhaps they'll also distribute it with a drill bit to modify your case for increased airflow too, eh?...hehe...

I don't see it - the G5 architecture is worth the entry price and there will be a serious cooling issue.

...not to mention you don't get the sassy case! That alone has to be worth $2K!!!

:D

I can't see how on earth a G5 'upgrade' could be effective when every other component in the machine is dragging it down...

Still, I didn't come up with the rumour...

Maybe they ship it with a window air conditioner a la Home Depot?

That would work...

You could say the exact same thing about people putting G4/500 upgrade cards into 9600 cases.
Just as useless for the most part. You get some benefit, but in the end, not worth it.

The architecture won't suppport the 64-bit features. However, if moving to a G5 is the only way to get past a 1.4GHz G4 processor speed, I suppose there could be an advantage speed-wise.

Considering the cost I don't see a real cost-effective benifit though.
