My wife's G4 iMac is spitting out all CDs and DVDs except one CD-r audio disk. I have tried to reboot using a tech support Cd and holding the C key but the computer spit the disk out and restarted off the hard drive.

Otherwise the computer is working well. We need to install some software on the computer. we have a G3 PB and a windows laptop.

Any suggestions would be great.

G4 imac spitup problem

if it spits out all discs, be they burnt, system discs, audio cd's, or whatever, maybe the drive is shot, or there's something in the software that needs to be fixed. Try running disk utility/ TechTool/Onyx. If you're having trouble, run system profiler and see if the cd/dvd drive shows up under Hardware/ATA... you may have to borrow a 6 pin firewire cable, find another Mac and start up both in Target mode, then put the diagnostic CD in the other Mac and do it that way (since your G4 won't take discs)

just a few thoughts at random

a new drive shouldn't be too hard to put in, if you're somewhat handy with tools
check out for a list of compatible drives

good luck
