Florida snowbird advice

I'm looking to go to Florida for 1-2 months this winter (jan/feb) and was wondering if anyone has any advice/experience in booking a 30-60 day stay in FL?

I would be driving down as I would need a car in FL.

I prefer the St. Pete's/Tampa Bay area as I like to golf.

but I don't think I could take my cat there
Florida is my choice since I can;

1. drive thereby having a car I don't have to rent
2. bring my cat as long as I jump thru various hoops

and yes, I have already looked into healthcare while I am away

I was looking more for info. on places to stay
