Been using the Fitness app every day now since last Fall. One thing that bothers me is that the Fitness widget on my iPhone doesn't refresh as I'm exercising unless I quit it and start it up. Very annoying. You'd think Apple would have gotten that right. Sure my Apple Watch does, but not my iPhone (neither my iPad for that matter). Am I missing something?

I haven't noticed an excess of replies to your concern, but it seems you are not alone with the problem, as I just used your phrase above to do a web search: 'Fitness widget on my iPhone doesn't refresh as I'm exercising unless I quit it and start it up' and that gives lots of similar hits with those with the same problem and very few if any actual solutions.

What's interesting to me and I find a bit troubling, is that Apple appears to be rather slack on getting a solution as the same problem seems to have been going on for several years now. A Restart for a solution that you discovered seems to be the only solution for now that I could see which seems to be rather excessive for a fix for a problem that shouldn't even be there.

Anyway, I hope you find the exercise beneficial regardless of what the widget says or doesn't say...

I wanted to test for a few days before replying here. I set up the Fitness Widget on my home page and It seems to be updating each time I open the home page. I have not looked too closely into the settings for the widget (if any), but the circle showing the progress towards the daily goal changes each time I look. And this is without having opened the app at all that day.

This is on an iPhone SE (2022) on iOS 16.3.1. What phone and iOS version are you using?

Maybe “refreshing” isn’t the correct term to use. My iPhone activity widget doesn’t keep in sync with my Apple Watch. This should be something that Apple should fix right off the bat. I shouldn’t have to restart the activity to have it refresh or update. Shame Apple. I also notice that my exercise goal of 30 minutes is very hard to reach. It will get stuck at 29 minutes and take forever to get to 30.

Why not try setting a lower goal and see if it improves at all???

I wouldn't have any idea as I don't use any of those devices. Maybe someone here or on the web does. I would be surprised if Apple can Supply you with any answers or support, but you could give them a try and maybe they will surprise all of us and give you a proper reply.

I don’t experience the same thing with my Apple Watch and iPhone. I set 30 minutes for my goal also and I hit my goal, it never gets stuck. Maybe you need to reset your Apple Watch and repair it with your iPhone. My watch also syncs my fitness data on my watch automatically to my phone. Lately I have been using it with my treadmill and I can see my fitness date on my phone afterwards.
