Feedback on NAD 712 Receiver

I am looking to purchase a used NAD 712 receiver and I wanted to see if anyone here has any knowledge or experience with this particular receiver.

Basically, I want to use it simply as a stereo receiver so I can plug in my iPod into it and connect it to my outdoor speakers. I may use it as a pre amp and separately amplify the speakers.

Max, I have a NAD 7100 receiver (currently packed away), but I used it for many years. Even today it's considered a good mid-fi unit. But being from the eighties, it certainly is lacking in connectivity compared to todays A/V receivers.
It looks very similar to the model you mention, and would appear to be from the same era.
