Any Excel experts out there?

I want to do a calculation that will average 3 year earnings,...

I am using the start date as the basis for my calculation.

If the years I am using are 1999, 2000, and 2001, can I write a formula that will only calculate the 3 year average if the start date is prior to 1999?

Rabbit, I'm no Excel expert, but I would use the "if" function. For the conditional statement, take advantage of the fact that dates can be expressed as numbers starting from January 2, 1904. (For example, October 28, 2002 is given the number 36 096 if you change the format of the date column to "general" or "number". January 1, 1999 would be 34 699, so the conditional part of your statement could be "if ____ > 34699".

I hope this helps and I apologise if you already thought of this but your problem is more complicated.
