I have been thinking about doing that as well. ETCHamac Custom Laser Etching :: iPod, iPhone, Computers, Tech Goods and more! is likely where I'll get it done, unless I can find a place in Ontario that can do it.

You don't *have* to send them the laptop, they'll just laser engrave a new lid and send that to you, which is likely how I would do it. Then, I'd have a spare! ;-)

When I do it, I'll be sure to post photos.

Well personally yours will do the same for much cheaper. I've already asked , the girl theirs a mac user and shes done her iPod and Powerbook.
After I posted my last reply, I photoshopped up what I wanted and sent it down, asking for a quote. We'll see what happens! Exciting!

Do you have contact info by any chance?

I do: bgeorges at macmediainc dot com - which I got off the website. The quote I received was $50/ quadrant with a two to four business day turnaround.

The design I submitted (below) would be $150, then, plus shipping down and back. I dropped by the post office to see about shipping, and it could be sent down for as little as $20 - the 3-5 business day option was closer to $40, *but* I could only insure my $2,700 computer for $1,000, so I will have to contact FedEx and see what they can offer me.

I'll save you the trouble of asking FedEx. AFAIK FedEx doesn't offer insurance of any sort if you believe the relevant section of their T's & C's at this link:

Don't have much to offer, but I thought I'd chime in here and say that's a really cool design. That laptop (if you end up getting it done) will really stand out. :D

That is true - however, I fully expected to pay extra for the insurance - which they do offer.

Thank you! I'm very excited about getting this done.
IMHO, its a bit much and I feel it takes away from the beauty of the Macbook. Plus such a huge advertisement looks kind of... tacky. Why not buy some sticker paper and print out the design so you can test it for a little while before you permenantly etch your MB's casing?
Cool, but I would get bored of it, I would go with a more

non permanent solution like a removable skin;
