ehMac Chat Room

I've seen that there is an ehMac chat room that is talked about when u use iChat, and I was wondering does anyone frequent it, and what are your thoughts on hopping into the chat room whenever you are posting?

Edit: I must say, this first day of hanging in the room was much fun! Thx for showing up: james_squared, Lars, Strongblade, RickTheChemist, and one or two others who floated in (including Lars friend from the States)

The ehMac chat room seems to be buzzing right now with a grand total of 6 people chatting :D

Anyone know how to change your icon? I can't figure it out...
I have been messing with iChat all day long, but have not had any success in making it connect to anything.

Does one need to have an AOL screen name? (I didn't think so, but registered for one (xxxx) which also doesn't seem to work)

Using my [email protected] address likewise seems futile.

I have full connectivity to the web (I'm on a university LAN) and have been surfing / emailing / ftp'ing all day long... but iChat does not like me for some reason.

Ah, well.. at least it looks like my AppleTalk / HP laserjet problems have resolved themselves... :p

You need either an AIM or .Mac account that is working...
You can make a .mac trial account and use that for iChat, and let it expire but you can keep the name as long as you use it on iChat every so often so the server knows that the account is still active.
Hey, man, I'm a full-paid-up .Mac member... but iChat still doesn't like me... :(

Maybe it's just that I'm a chat neophyte?

Let's walk through the steps...

I've made myself "Available" via the menubar tool.

In preferences, it is set to us [email protected] and AIM is not enabled (it didn't work anyway)

Then go to FILE--->Go To Chat

Window appears where you can type in a chat room (?) name, but the "Service" pop-up menu is disabled (AIM and Rendezvous are both greyed out)

Hm. Okay, go to FILE--->New Chat With Person

Window appears, type in someone's iChat username (have tried a couple, including one that I knew was online), but ...well.. nothing. No activity lights, no spinning beach balls, nada. In the chat window, my handsome face appears, with an empty cloud balloon (a thought balloon, not a talk balloon).

I could go FILE----> New Chat but what would I say, who would know I exist, etc.?

My only other IM experience was with someone's ICQ system, which practically did the salsa to let you know that people were available to chat with you...

Any tips, veteran iChatsters?

You need to be able to get onto AOL's server... Also enable AIM.. Thats why you can't log on... you only have iChat set up for Rendezvous, but because there is no one set up with Rendezvous that is greyed out too.
Yeah, the chat was pretty good. First time ever in a ehMac chat, and 6 people, not bad. ;)

Hello,

That's funny. I don't have a .Mac account or an AOL screen name, but I can get on just fine. Apparently, I'm still allowed to use my old iTools account name. I don't even think I ever used that e-mail address anyway.

Hello,

Sorry I didn't have much to say. I'm trying to make an assignment for the kids to do tomorrow and I have some lectures to prepare and I have to create a couple of mid-terms. It must be that time of year, again.

Well this is interesting... I'm at my friend's place, on her iMac, and iChat fires right up for her, no problem. Maybe the university LAN has disabled access to the AIM server?

I'll connect with my laptop later and try it via dialup.

FYI, I'm in the chat, and I show up as "Etta Parker"

(well, at least the photo is correct!)

Looks like this post has sparked interest and there seemed to always be one or two ppl in the room...
To get to the chat room, open up iChat, get logged in. Go File -> Go to chat (Or press command/open apple - G) and choose AOL Instant Messenger from the pull down menu and type in ehMac in the box below and press enter...
To see other people's icons you will need to add them, and its easy with drag and drop. Have fun and just ask someone if something is not working rite...
I haven't been around the house the last 48 hours, so I've been missing. This chat thing could have a lot of potential for ehMac, we could do a night for whatever. I know, like Tuesdays it'll most likely be about FragNight which has seemed to lose some drive...
For what it's worth, I've started hanging out in the ehMac chat room whenever I'm not terribly busy. RtC makes for interesting banter and all, but it would be nice if other people showed up from time to time ;)
I'm there as much as possible, but yeah it seems to have lost popularity :( So heres a call to all ehMac citizens again, come join and chat with people in the ehMac chat room! All you need is an application to run the AIM service (preferably iChat).

I'm in there whenever I'm on iChat, but sometimes I'm too busy with others things so I don't bother. No point in being in the chat if you're too busy to talk..
