Anybody watch the edu pricing specials over time? Many of the deals they have on (bundle specials and 14 inch ibook rebates etc.) expire this Saturday. Do they always have specials going on, and if so, does anybody know what is coming down the pipeline. I am wondering whether to grab one of the specials now, or wait. I'd rather wait if I could for financial reasons

I'm not totally sure as to how the specials work, but before any one gets  about the nice special education pricing which is aimed to make getting a Mac easier for the "poor university students", and not for others to take advantage of it. Has anyone here in Canada checked out the Developer pricing? I've read on several other Mac boards you pay $99 US to be a ADC member, and since you paid, you also get access to the latest Apple beta software, discounts on computers (from what I heard very worth the $99 alone) and a slew of other benefits. I've never looked into it myself and am also wondering how large the discount is.

hambone - I would expect a Christmas special, and most likely come December/January a new set of specials for the next year's students.

the student developer discount and the educational discount are neck in neck right now.

Usually with the student developer discount you get around a 20% one time only discount on a system and any accessories (has to be one purchase,...all on the same bill)

But with the ipod and system bundle with $300 off they are neck in neck.

For example.

Student developer discount 17" powerbook price = $3525
+ 20 gig ipod $475
+ 14.5% tax
=$4580

Educational discount on 17" powerbook $3850
+ 20 gig ipod $529
-$300
+ 14.5% tax
=$4671

In other words..not worth wasting your one time only discount on the student developer rate. Save it for the G5 ;)

Pamela - The $300 savings ends this Saturday for one, and the developer discount isn't only extended to students, but people like Heart can get them too. Apple loves their developers.

Oh.
Thanks for clearing that up. I really thought there was a $99 ADC membership for the rest of us, but was much more restrictive then the $500 ADC Select membership. Oh well, I think when I become a student, a $99 ADC membership, instead of my current free one will be nice.
