Hey there... So I accidentally dropped my MBP and now the screen is broken. It looks as if everything else is fine (it works fine with an external monitor), but I'd like to get the machine fixed and then checked over.

Anyone out there have any idea of what I'm looking at cost-wise to replace the screen on my non-unibody MBP (matte screen)? Should I take it to apple? I have Apple care still if that helps...

Is there anywhere to trade in the machine for a new one (paying the difference obviously)?

And Any body know what kind of full diagnostics I should run to verify everything else is in working order?

Thanks.

AppleCare doesn't cover you dropping your MBP.

As for cost, you didn't mention what size screen so its hard to say, but doing the repair yourself you could probably get away under $400. Having a tech do it will cost closer to $900 (and you will quickly find out why if you try doing it yourself).
