Darn Airport Extreme "N"

I am Sorry to say, but i am selling that darn stupid Airport Extreme N.

This bloody thing is nothing but trouble to my wireless network. Can't do any WDS with my Express, can't do this and can't do that now i bought a new wireless network adapter for my Xbox 360 and that adapter can't see my airport extreme n. wether it was in WAP or WEP.

Now i am back with my old extreme "cone" and everything is back to normal. Glitches free. My new wireless adapter from my xbox 360 can see it and can now work online wirelessly, back on my WDS mode with my Express.

I am really disappointed with that new Extreme. limits is something that i can't handle especially from Apple.

According to some article that i have read, the new Extreme and the network adapter from the Xbox 360 aren't compatible and both Microsoft and Apple are working on it, but unfortunately, my decision has been made. i am getting rid of that new Extreme, only 3 months old. really sad though
Unless some of you have been successful on wirelessly network the Xbox adapter to the new Airport and doing the WDS with the Express.
The WDS is not only for me as our place have a big amount of wireless computers running around and since i have had this new extreme in the house? it was everything but glitches and waste of time to rectify the problem.

So far, i have done everything and nothing positive came out there other than problems.

I am a big fan of APPLE and i love them dearly, but this put a red flag in my list:-(

I simply setup my new Airport Extreme N along with my old Extreme as a dual-band network, and get the best of both worlds. We have one Core 2 Duo here, and after setting up the iMac with ethernet, the transfer between the two tops 10MB's/sec.

I have two Airport Expresses working with the dual-band, a Wii...

I understand your frustration, but I did a fair amount of research to determine whether adding the extreme would be worth it or not, and how much it would disrupt my current wireless environment. Performance wise, I love it.

My only beef is that AirDisk is poorly done (or incomplete) at this time.
"N" technology is still in its infancy. It hasn't even been standardized yet.

When I read about AirDisk, my first thought was "Oh gawd, how glitchy is that going to be?"

I've never been impressed by Apple's AirPort base stations. Over-priced, under-featured, versus what other manufacturers are putting out.

For network printing, ALWAYS get a printer that is network ready.

For network storage, ALWAYS get a hard drive that is network ready.

Yes, they both cost a little more, but that's the price for have something work reliably.
I have the N router and a Express doing WDS. There was a discussion about this around a month ago. Have a look for it. Lots of good info on setting up WDS.

Can't help you with the XBox issue. I avoid MS products.

Well i can't help it when you are a gamer, i love games and my new burnout revenge and gears of war on my new LCD HDTV with my 360? Sorry can't help it, games are kewl. i am thinking to get the Xbox Ellite. LMAO that is the only reason why i get the one and last microsoft product at home:clap:

Well i have read many article concerning some of the issue and i have read some of post that most of you have posted on this forum concerning the airport and i have been seeking info about it, but nothing has been quite successful.

As for the 2 Extreme connected together? i have done it to and i do have to admit that the new extreme is fast and i give a 2 thumbs up and then connect my other extreme to it "bridge mode", but the reason why i want only one airport to run in the house, not 6 or 3, only one and that is why i bought the new extreme, hoping that it could do what it was suppose to. it didn't

I am aware that the new extreme is still under progress and testing and all, but i think from now on i will wait until the product is stable with good reviews.

I've had several routers from LinkSys and Dlink (2 of each), and the AirPort Extreme N is by far the most reliable of all of them. In my opinion, the Linksys and Dlink products are just total crap and you get what you pay for. The AirPort Extreme N can do everything the others can, and then more. I have 3 Macs (2 wireless), a Sony PSP, PS3, Nokia E61, AirPort Express and Xbox on my network. No problems thus far.

The AirPort Extreme is worth every penny to me since I now have a reliable network with much better wireless range than I have ever had before. It's also much more convenient to configure using the GUI software than a web browser.

My suggestion is to get the AirPort Extreme replaced in case it's a defective unit, because my own experience and what I've read on the Internet seems to differ greatly from your own.

Best of luck.
Microsoft does gaming right, that's all they do best. With years of PC gaming under their belt, the XBox interface is just awesome, intuitive, fun, you'd just wish the same brains worked on Windows UI.

They've even integrated Messenger into the XBox interface--not that you necessarily want your friends popping in while you are blowing away the Flood.

Sales figures would prove you wrong Wii seems to be kicking Microsoft around the block...and making money not losing it ...
The light bulb has lit.:lmao:

I have still my D***n 802.11N. lol and i have read online that there is maybe a solution to my problem. Or whomever that is experiencing the same situation as i am.

I did bought the wireless adapter for my Xbox 360 and i read online that the Xbox could share my connection with a crossover cable via ethernet port off my G5? Now is this correct? can we do this? Just like we were sharing or connecting to mac together and sharing, hummm how do you call this "Internet Sharing"?

What do you guys think? i just did a firmware update for my new Airport Extreme N and it is faster and changed my mind to keep it as my signal is now at full strengh.
Sorry to take the subject on a slightly different turn, but what's up with Airport Express? When is that gonna get N'd?
i don't mean to be rude or anything, but the new Airport Extreme from Apple? like the little flat head box? is N'd that is the one i have and can't do "F" all to it, but if you have read the previous post? we have some little issue with it. trying to rectify some issue to get around it.XX) with the Xbox 360 / WDS and the hole nine yards.:)

You may not even need a crossover cable. Newer Macs have auto-sensing ethernet ports and can handle a direct computer to computer connection with a standard straight-thru cable. I'm just not sure if your G5 has it or not. Try plugging your 360 in with a standard cable and see if it works. You can enable internet sharing in the sharing system preference pane.
will give it a try when i will get my Xbox 360 back from repair and will keep you posted. i Still got my crossover cable and will try it anyway that way. Either way, i am sure it is going to work.

Cheers:heybaby:
I'd feel compelled to just stick with an 802.11b/g router if any game unit (Nintendo, Sony, XBox) needs a wireless connection.

I know that with a G router, if anything is running at B speeds, EVERY device will scale down to the slower speed. 11MB vs 54MB is a fairly large slide in performance.

Unless anyone can argue the contrary, I'd be weary of any b/g devices slowing down the N wireless signal if you need to transfer large files wirelessly. Might be best to have a b/g for older wireless devices, and N exclusively for N devices.
Humm want to hear the worse of it all?

I have a new Extreme with the N capability. My G5 can't get the N because of my old airport wireless card that takes only b/g, but i could get a PCI x card for it and i can get one for it, But with a big "B" for what i am doing, would it be really worth it?

I mean, i love the new speed off that new Extreme and that is the only reason why i bought it so that i can stop using my Express for the WDS setting as it slow down the speed for doing 2X as fast the job that is suppose to do.

now i am without the WDS, with my new extreme, full strength and as we speak it is still full and loving the speed and will soon get a PCI card for the N Enable set up.

All i want to do is to play and go live with my Xbox 360 and still enjoy the speed of it. As of now, my Xbox is at the shop still and hoping to hear from "M****soft" so that i can resume my games and gain my rep for more stars and download so kewl stuff for updates and all.

The only thing that i am mad about is only the fact that the new Extreme has some issue and only Apple need to do something about it for updates so that any wireless card can communicate together without a glitch wether it is Mi***soft product or any of them.

I just saw an update for the AirPort Extreme over the weekend. Version 7.1.1 if memory serves correctly. Update your AE and see if it solves your problems.
Your XBox is still being repaired and the "only" thing you're angry about is the Airport Extreme?

Does your new XBox wireless adapter have "N"? If not, you really didn't need to upgrade to the Extreme for that purpose.

If it's at all possible, go for a wired connection to the XBox. If you don't, you'll be blaming any and all lagginess on the wireless connection, and never really know if it's your ISP, Microsoft (why is Microsoft ***ing out in these messages?), the wireless adapter, the AE, or something else. Sure it's cool to play wirelessly; that's why there are wireless controllers. But a wired ethernet connection is preferred.

I didn't upgrade for that purpose of the Xbox as my Extreme was bought few months before the Xbox kicked in.
I took the new Extreme for the speed and a larger radius as i previously posted, i use to be on a WDS "airport Express" to extend the range with my old extreme "cone".
Now i do agree that connecting Ethernet cable is better and faster, but in a house? i don't feel like doing holes in the walls or ceiling or having cables dangling from ceiling or hung by the wall when the modem is down stairs and my office is upstairs. That is why i went wireless 3 years ago until i have heard of this sweet deal on the new Extreme. "Faster and better"

So i am now waiting to get my xbox back and do the internet sharing via my G5 and i will be happy again. Just trying to find a way around the problem and this could be the one.

Cheers
Here's hoping your XBox arrives back soon, completely fixed. I like the idea of an "office" for XBox. Is there no way to relocate the modem, then?
