Converter for PDF file from Kindle?

1401 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  pm-r
I called Amazon about getting text-to-speech on the Kindle for Mac and they said it couldn't be done, but if we could convert the PDF file to put it on the computer out of the kindle app, it might work then. They couldn't (weren't allowed) to give me the name of any converters for Mac so I am wondering if anyone here knows of any converter that can be downloaded which will convert a pdf from Kindle onto the Mac. Hope this is clear!

Isn't a PDF a PDF? Shouldn't any PDF open quite easily in Preview or even in Safari? There's also a Kindle for Mac app in the Mac App Store that you can use to read Kindle purchases on your Mac if that's what you're looking for. I'd imagine after that an app like Macintalk would do the trick.
He has ebooks on the Kindle for Mac and they will not interface with the text-to-speech available on the imac. So Amazon suggested converting the PDF original on Kindle to a PDF on the computer, if that is possible, so that it would be directly on the computer and could be read using the existing text-to-speech that is on the systems preference. So I was wondering if anyone knew how to do that. I looked at the calibre that yeeha mentioned and it says that PDF is a bad input format. It also indicated that it was for transfer to another device, not to the original computer. Would love any other suggestions. Thanks

There are tools that can convert books in PDF format to Kindle-supported file format.

Hello xolegi, and welcome to ehmac.ca, but I just thought I should mention in case you missed the fact that the post you are replying to is almost 11 years old now, I'm pretty sure they hopefully found a solution long before now.

Anyway, welcome to the forums, and you might want to check the date of any posted messages before replying in the future, and I hope you enjoy your time and visits here.

Who are "they" that you refer to...???
But the internet tells me Calibre is the best desktop tool for converting Kindle books to PDF and Zamzar is the easiest website you can use for the same purpose.

For more choices you could try the site's suggestions yourself:

You should be able to download a compatible version of Calibre from here, but check the version compatibility requirements for the version you need:

And welcome to ehMac.ca forums.

If I recall from using it many years ago it was quite simple and straightforward even though different format types might have been involved.

Good luck.

I was just curious how margoandme made out with their Kindle/PDF translation project as there was no further response on the topic, and actually I can't see any sign of their existence anymore. Have they left the forums???

I also can't seem to find the list of members that used to be available at the site. Has it also disappeared or am I just blind or just don't know where to look???

margoandme was a spammer. They are no longer welcome here.

Wow... Are you guys ever quick and certainly do have a better eye than I do, so I shall certainly withdraw my welcome greeting to ehMac forums I posted to them.

And thanks for helping to keep us spam free.
