Connecting to internet from PC to MacBook

I've had a PC for a long time but its been slowing down so I decided to get a MacBook. I've had the MB for a month now and am enjoying it. I've been using my neighbours wireless waves but the connection isn't reliable. I've tried using the ethernet cable for my PC (I use Rogers), taking the end attached to the back of the PC's CPU and inserting it into the MB ethernet port. I disconnect aiport when I do this. Now after I insert the ethernet cable into the MB, I run Safari and it says there is no internet connection. The other end of the cable is still connected to my modem. I've gone through Network Diagnostics but still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a router?

Thanks

Restart the modem. :)

Physically unplug it and plug it back in. It will assign your Macbook a new IP address.
Figures that it would be that simple...working now

Kudos to you Vexel...thanks :)
Glad it worked.

I only found that out recently myself. When I was down east, my modem would automatically assign anything plugged into it a new address on the fly.. here with Rogers, the modem needs a restart or it absolutely won't work. :/

Anyway.. have fun! :)
