canon video codec

Just bought myself a nice Canon SD750. I'm having an issue with the video files. They record in .avi but there seems to be no codec to play them on a computer (or to edit them in imovie for that matter). There also doesn't seem to be any resources to explain the situation on the canon site.

Does anyone know anything about this?

thanks! it worked great!

it is terrible how unsupported canon video files are.

OS X has no built-in support for the Xvid or DivX codecs, which are often employed within the AVI container.
I meant no support from canon.
FWIW, Canon records using Motion JPEG which is supported by QuickTime just fine (And plays in VLC as well). They just use an .avi container. Personally any movies taken with a Canon camera I recompress to H.264 after to save space largely because the audio is uncompressed.
well oddly quicktime would crash upon trying to open the .avi and imovie would do the same.. however that is fixed now with perian codec pack installed.

(supposidly quicktime 5 had the right codecs for canon but the newer versions of quicktime don't... doesn't make much sense imo).
