Canada's New Government - do you care?

2615 Views 56 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  JumboJones
One of our fellow ehmacers from Alberta suggested that few Canadians know of and even fewer care that the current federal gov't calls itself "new"

Do you care?
I have included a snapshot of the post so the wording is perfectly clear.
#4 is the one I am particularly interested in.

So, do you care?

I knew and care about it. The "new" government has wasted a lot of money and time on needless re-branding.

The upper levels of the Feds were whipped into a frenzy to ensure that the predominant colour of all publications was blue, and display minimal amounts of red whenever possible.

Go figure.

I have a concept for one of the first annual reports published under the Feds that has a note specifically asking for the Canadian Flag be colourized with a blue wash to minimize the "excessive" amounts of "Liberal red" displayed on the cover.

F*ckin' morons.
I thinks it's important for then to distinguish themselves from other parties that were in charge. I believe any party would have said they were the "new" government. We haven't seen change for so long that it comes to us as a surprise when they say new.
I think it's petty, superficial and pathetic. But this is modern politics wer'e talking about.. when you don't have vry exciting ideas, rebrand everything and tie it up with a purdy bow... maybe the sheep won't notice the subterfuge.

I didn't realize that 13 years was such a long time
;)
Branding is everything. From the "New Nixon" to the "New Coke", new and improved is far better than old and rotten. So, we need to keep consuming products whether we need them or not, close our eyes, ears and nose to the pollution around us, and accept what the government gives to us. Then, comes election day, the New Government of Canada will have a new election slogan -- Forget to Remember and be Happy.

You must feel the same way about the Ontario Liberals then. Re-Branding and wasteful spending at its best/worst. The new ontario logo is a joke, looks like a bird **** on a windshield. But of course we could go to the biggest rebranding blunder, Toronto Unlimited, what ever happened to that? :lmao:

And don't get me started on the OLG logo.
I generally agree with Max's comments above but do not really care.

Politicians sloganeer and use soundbites because it generally works better than substantitive discussion.

The 'new' moniker has made for some good jokes when chatting with people.

I run by a technological advancement clock :p A single year is long.
Comes the next federal election, we will have to choose between the New New Government of Canada, the old Liberals, the old NDP and the somewhat newer Bloc. Who would not choose to get something newer than new? Think of the next iMac and iPhone all rolled into one. Might not fit into your pocket well, but imagine all the free media you would get being interviewed about carrying around this new product. Not sure what Apple would call this product, but you would be called the iDiot .............. just what the government wants in a voter.

So, always vote for the New Party, just so long as either the word conservative/reform/alliance is somewhere in its name.

Why worry? Think happy thoughts and be happy.

I'll vote for the bleeding-edge new party, I've yet to form it though.
hUssain, with a name like yours, and my religion, we might both end up in a New New Government of Canada (NNGoT) "Re-education" camp. Such thoughts as the one you expressed needs to be surpressed and any non-NNGoT comments need to be expunged from the records.

Of course, we might have great company, with the likes of Macspectrum, MacDoc, ArtistSeries, et al. So, we will have a grand old time being "re-educated".
They should use, "Newest" so that no one can edge them out of the new game.

I don't know, that didn't quite work out in Clockwork Orange, and bleeding-edge is used as a term to mean the newest and greatest in technology. But I see where you are coming from, now that you mention it, I might be labelled as a terrorist organization.

No re-education, we'll be re-educated to use Windows as our primary OS :yikes: (the prisons use XP for educational purposes)
hUssain, we will use whatever we are given, eat whatever we are given, do whatever we are told to do and think whatever we are told to think. Get with the New New Program.

I wonder if we will eat apples. The New New Program will destroy our ability to Think Different.

Just wait until the New New Government gets in and we can put this blather behind us.
Personally, I'm a supporter of the Super Happy Fun Excellent New Government of Canada party. Or the Rhinos. Either one is good.
At this point, just for the sake of nostalgia if nothing else, I'd be willing to cast a vote for the Same Old But With A New Coat of Paint Crappy Government.
That explains much, Max. I'm a cynical optimist. You're just cynical. :D
