OK, I have the latest and greatest macOS with all updates etc.

Now that iTunes no longer manages apps on iDevices, is there still any need for the Mobile Applications folder to remain on the Mac? It is occupying almost 10 gigs of space.

Only if you're sure you won't need any of those apps later that are no longer in the App Store, ie:

At least maybe just move them out to some storage drive.
