the guy said it was broken when I got home I turned in on and it booted.
The display contrast was set all the way down!

So what can I do with it?

Any ideas?

If you wanna be creative with it, how about a digital picture frame? There was a couple of simple OS7-9 type apps that automagically slideshowed through any jpegs in the same folder. The one I remember using was KPT Quickshow, but I think there were a couple others.

I also remember using a couple of old computers with a peiece of software from Simpsoft way back when that let you do remote banner display type stuff .. I used them for teleprompting LOL.

Here's that type of picture frame mod with an old Duo

Nice buy! I don't imagine the battery is much good anymore (though you can re-pack them yourselves with new NiCads - Google is your friend), but the 180 is a nifty machine. I loved my 160... it was my very first Powerbook.... ;)
the 180c was an old favorite of mine, so much so that for a spell I kept buying old 180c's to combine it into 1 maxxed out model. Currently I have a 180c in mint condition with several working batteries, with a 500 MEG HD and the full 14 MEGS of RAM! Took me about a year and three 1XX powerbooks to make my dream machine.

Now it sits in a cabnet unused... wish I could find a 'non destructive use for it'

I love that powerbook.
Hey, I thought we were friends. How come you never pulled that out of the closet to impress me with? *snif* ....I may have to rethink my planned tequila delivery in September....
Wow... 500 MB... 125 songs in your backpack. lol.

Buddy If I could tear you away from that Newton I would have showed it to ya! But there you were fiddlin with that damb stylus giggling like a school girl... What was I supposed to do?! ;)

Are you saying that the 180c supports itunes?!, drooool, heheh

Now that would be cool! Of course it would be a pretty short playlist, the sonds would need to be 64kbs and it would be mono... BUT FRIKKEN HELL IT WOULD BE COOL! [shakes fist to sky]
resell it for $10.00.
I'd take his offer!

I was going to suggest reselling it for $2.50

The 180c is a good PowerBook for it's time... I'd be gentle with the plastics though as they are probably quite brittle and those guys had a habit of breaking their hinge mounts.

I still have a couple, one I set up with on the internet as a BBS.

Pretty cool machines - and really, it shows how well made they were in the day. Half the poop they shove out of plants these days won't even see the completion of their first year of service, and by the time they are at the age of the 180 - I doubt they will even work - thanks to ROHS.

Excellent find, and if anything, it would be fine just to have it around as a museum piece, just like the old Priam network drive I have kicking around, that is still in perfect working order after more than 20 years.
