I was going to order a macbook online and all options had delivery or pick up by Aug. 4th. Its Canada Day, so I can't call...but do not have laptops in stock anymore? Do people really need to wait a month in order to pick one up?

It must depend on your location. I can get a MacBook Air M1 and a MacBook Pro for pickup tomorrow (Saturday) at my local Apple store.

Supply has been constrained for a lot of MacBooks lately, especially the 14 and 16 inch MBPros.
Apple's refurbished store gets restocked randomly, and I managed to nab a 14 inch M1 Max on June 1. They all disappeared within an hour, and I haven't seen a 14 or 16 inch model since.
