The processor snob in me finds it odd that Apple is selling an i3 processor - sure, it's 10th-generation, but... does it have any oomph?

Apple announces new MacBook Air with scissor switch keyboard

Apple has announced a new MacBook Air with a Magic Keyboard and a new $999 price point for all customers ($1299 CDN), and a discounted $899 price for the education market.

The MacBook Air now replaces the butterfly keyboard with a Magic Keyboard similar to what Apple debuted in the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The internal specs have also been given a boost.

Apple has also doubled the base storage, so the MacBook Air now starts at 256 GB. You can spec the machine up to 2 TB.

The new MacBook Air features the latest 10th-generation Intel CPUs, up to 1.2GHz quad core i7.

You can order the new MacBook Air starting today. Apple says the machine will be available in Apple retail stores starting next week, although of course most stores are shut due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Today, Apple also released a new iPad Pro and spec-bumped the Mac mini.

I am considering the new 13" MacBook Air with the 1.2GHz quad-core 10th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz processor and a 8GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X memory BG SSD with some accessories and it works out to $2,282 plus tax of 5% of $114.10 for a total of $2,396.10.

Apple is willing to give me $1,160 trade-in for my current MBP so I could upgrade for about $1,236.10. I would drop my SSD to 512 in the Air from the current 1TB MBP, 2.8 Ghz and RAM down to 8GB from 16, but it may be worth considering when the smoke clears on the virus issue.

Or perhaps I could sell my current MBP with a new keyboard and battery and get a bit more for it, although am not sure what it is now worth. I bought it new in July of 2016 as a late 2015 model. It is in good condition and would come in the original box. Any thoughts on value?
