Anyone know Audacity?

833 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Pennfana
Audacity has been recommended to me for making MP3s. The problem is, I don't know anything about it or how to use it. I have downloaded it (from a link) but now what? Can anyone help please?

Thanks.

What do you mean "make mp3s"? For converting audio file formats I usually use iTunes, although I do use Audacity to manipulate files (reverse, amplify, convert from stereo to mono, change pitch, etc.)
Shows how little I know about the process! I want to create MP3s for sale. Someone told me "just use Audacity", Obviously I need to start further back in the process. Thanks for the input.
To be able to make mp3s from things you've recorded or edited in Audacity, you'll have to download something called "LAME", which is a library which will allow Audacity to make mp3 files. You can find a download link for it here. Once you've unzipped the file (depending on whether you're on a PPC or an Intel Mac, it'll be called either LameLib or libmp3lame.dylib), make sure you know where it is. The first time you want to make an mp3 from Audacity, the program will ask you to find it; after that, it'll be automatic.
Thank you so much. That's very helpful.
