I just installed the trial version of Dreamweaver CS3, and Adobe hasn't done anything to improve the FTP performance. It's still crap (slow transfers, dropping connections, can't connect at all something), all while CyberDuck works flawlessly. Very sad for Adobe. Otherwise, everything else seems to be working smoothly.

Hi all,
The Adobe CS3 seminar at the Carlu, College Park on Yonge St. was phenomenal. I've been to most of the major Adobe product launches in the past 12-15 years and while all of them astounded people with demos of the new features and updates, this launch was remarkable in that Adobe has overhauled 13 of their products and much of the integration between the various applications is virtually seamless. Instead of having to save files in specific formats you can copy and paste between apps - even layered PhotoShop files directly in DreamWeaver. The integration between the apps is remarkable and the presenter used Adobe Bridge throughout the demo to manage the files, opening them from Bridge's preview window, combining them into a PDF from Bridge, pretty amazing stuff. With this integration, the circle is now complete. This shall forever be known as the release that killed Quark XPress. There really is no reason to continue the charade, QX7 disappointed most, we have little need to prolong the agony. Our studio and my own freelance business will be completely switched within 3-6 months.
Here are a few highlights:
- Adobe Acrobat has a new package feature that combines all Adobe file formats into one PDF but keeps their pages as separate chapters within one file [instead of just merging all pages]
- Adobe PhotoShop can open movies in layered files, allow you to retouch each individual frame, then export as a finished movie - the sample he had was a video of cars going across the Golden Gate bridge, looking along the length of the bridge, but he used PhotoShop to average the
- Adobe PhotoShop - Camera Raw is now part of PhotoShop and has much better image control - no more using Unsharp Mask and making a mess of images, CR also supports JPG and TIF files so you can use it on all images
- Adobe PhotoShop - the QuickSelect tool allows you to paint an area to highlight it and it has smart pixel recognition to help drop out backgrounds
- Adobe PhotoShop - all filters can now be applied on layers - yeah!
- Adobe Bridge is much more robust and is now able to preview all file types right in the app
- Adobe Bridge - you can highlight several files in various formats and select Import to Acrobat and it will process all of the files into one PDF
- Adobe PhotoShop - you can copy all layers and paste into other apps [it then asks for a filename and location to save the file]
- Adobe Bridge - you can load in several images and text files, choose Import to InDesign, and click on various frames in InDesign to place the images - you can toggle back and forth and preview the images in a little thumbnail before dropping them where you want, very cool.
- Adobe Illustrator can create "symbols" - repeating graphics so that when you edit one of them, all symbols in the file with that same filename will automatically update
- Adobe Illustrator can label items as "instances" to prep the file for use in Flash
- Adobe Illustrator - you can use the erase tool to create compound paths [shapes with holes knocked out of them]
- Adobe has published a colour resource site at http://kuler.adobe.com where designers can share colour palettes and these are downloadable into PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, DreamWeaver, etc.
- Adobe DreamWeaver has smart guides that snap to objects
- Adobe DreamWeaver allows you to file common items in a library for use across multiple html documents
- Adobe DreamWeaver - the technology is moving towards CSS-defined page construction and away from table-based pages
- Adobe DreamWeaver - allows you to create templates with predefined areas that clients can update while not permitting them to change the page construction or any non-editable areas that are defined

Dreamweaver hasnt changed much since the macromedia days, and even then it topped out early in its lifecycleI just installed the trial version of Dreamweaver CS3, and Adobe hasn't done anything to improve the FTP performance.
