I'm looking to finally get into wireless networking. From what I know, the Airport card for the TiBook isn't so hot because of the antenna design flaw in the TiBook itself. Can anybody recommend a 3rd-party PC card for 802.11b or g? What have you had success with? Does 802.11g work with the TiBook? Any PC Card recommendations for 802.11g? What driver software do I need?
Thanks.

Just been researching this for a friend with lousy airport reception in his Titanium-here's what I've found so far, for 11g cards-which all seem to be supported in X only (11b cards will usually work with Airport software in 8.6, 9.x and require third-party driver in X-either free Wireless Driver or IOXperts Driver (US$20). Seems most cards with Broadcom chipset will work:

Buffalo 11g card, that works with Mac OSX, in Canada, for CDN$107, plus $10 shipping. Works with Airport software.

Here's the link-:

Here's the manufacturer's page:

They seem to be available online in US for US$60-70. Hit the Buy Online button to see. Not sure about shipping, etc. to Canada from those retailers.

This would seem to be the best bet-all reports I've read recommend the Buffalo cards.

Sonnet Aria, 11g card-OSX only...

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/aria_extreme.html

It's US$80, don't know if anyone carries it in Canada...

Another 11g-Asante FriendlyNET- just under $100 at Macwarehouse Canada; they also have the Buffalo 11b for $90. Don't see the Buffalo 11g there.

Manufacturer site:

At Macwarehouse.ca:

The Buffalo card (11b- 9-Airport software & X-Wireless driver)

Here's another 11g card that is supposed to work as well, often seems to be on sale in US:

Available here:

Sometimes seem to be on sale for US$35, according to a Macfixit post-not sure if Fry's/Outpost will ship to Canada, though.

Here's another 11b card- Linksys Wireless Network PC Card (WPC11) for CDN$58 at CanadaComputers.com:

Manufacturer page:

http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=427

Believe the Linksys WPC54G (11g) card is also compatible. Usually available at FutureShop...

Also check http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/11g/11gCardbus.html

and the Macsense cards at http://www.shipitforyou.com/macsense/ though it seems like some other manufacturers, the 11g cards are cheaper than 11b cards...

I use a Lucent Orinoco Wavelan Silver(11b) in my G3 Powerbooks(Wallstreet and Lombard)- it also works in 190/5300, 1400, 3400, etc. And also on the Titanium-better range/reception than the internal Airport card.

I have been using the LinkSys 54g card mentioned above since the summer with an SMC 54g wireless router using the router config software that came with the SMC and have had no problems.

With the recent Safari upgrade I can now run the router configuration software without having to resort to IE.
