connect to tv

Hi there, I want to try to connect my macbook (its those regular white ones) to my TV, Ive been doing some google-ing, but it all seems so confusing! Can somebody please explain this to me in plain english? what wires do i have to buy? How do I set it up? etc.. thanks a lot!!:D Zahra
