I think you can just juice them up with more RAM to counteract the logic board problems. But since it has Apple Care until 2012, who cares?

did you ever bring it to the Genius Bar at an apple store for them to run a diagnostic?

That model has the 8600 video chip, which has a repair program by apple. If that was the problem then apple would repair it for free.
