Macbook Pro 15" 2.8 GHz Mid 2009

I am sorting out what to do with my son's mid-2009 15" Macbook Pro. Original owner, new from Apple Canada in January 2010. It has been essentially unused since July 2012 when it was replaced with a retina display model.

The good

It's a 15" Macbook Pro
It has 4GB RAM and a build-to-order 7200 rpm 500GB hard drive
A somewhat noisy fan was just replaced at the Apple Store, so quiet.
It includes box and all original accessories.
It (generally) works. The Apple Store ran diagnostics and found no issues besides those mentioned below.

The bad

It was dropped early in it's life (from bed height). The aluminum lid has a slight bend in the right rear corner, and there are a couple of small dents (lid, keyboard rest).
The optical drive seems to read cds but not dvds. Haven't tried burning.
The battery is depleted (Apple Store term). It holds some charge, but don't count on over an hour.
The keyboard backlight is "out" on the left third or so of keyboard.
There are three small light bleed spots on the display. Google Macbook Pro bleed and you will find it is a not uncommon problem. Generally not an issue, but jumps out in dark scenes for movies.

Before disassembling and selling valuable innards and accessories (logic board, in particular) I thought I would gauge interest here. Avoiding the hassle of parting out is worth something, but I am not giving it away.

I would take $500 immediately. I will not consider anything below $350. If you are interested within that range, please PM. I would prefer a local buyer (Ottawa) but will ship within Canada at buyer's expense.

Hey Gord,

what is the GPU in this model? I have the 9400M but want something a bit more powerful without the having to buy a new machine....

thanks,
Mark

Someone asked for pictures of dents/lid. The small dents are really hard to capture (see arrows on lid, right speaker grill). There are two more small ones on left side of keyboard surround. The bend in the corner of the lid is easy to spot.

I also included a shot of the 3 light bleed spots, since I didn't make it clear how subtle they are. Basically, you need a solid background of certain shade to notice them. Like the grey background when booting, or certain solid desktops as in the picture. I also found one black dot on the solid blue background (see picture), presumably a stuck pixel.
