Imac G4 20" screen replacement

Anybody ever gone through this procedure?
The Imac I have has some dark blotches. Previous owner told me it was probably from his young daughter hitting the display.
Anyhow, I found some info on the 17" from IFixit and imagine the 20" might be similar.
Please let me know if you have some experience with this.
Thanks

I thought where would you find the LCD. A search on eBay turns up amazing variety of parts for the G4 iMac.

Interesting that an original 20-in. G4 iMac can still fetch about $400. I sold mine five years ago.

It was the top of the line of that fairly popular body style, and it was somewhat rare as a result of soft sales (cost was prohibitive for most people). This gives it a unique position of high demand and low supply.

When I upgraded from an OS 9 Mac to an OS X Mac, I had my eyes on a 20-in. iMac. As soon as I saw the price tag, I backed off and ended up getting a 15-in. G4 iMac. But since I often needed to produce graphics in a widescreen aspect ratio, I bought a used 20-in. iMac two years later. That used 20-in. iMac was expensive too.

I had the 20-in. iMac for about two years, then it became too slow for the graphics work that I was doing. I sold it to my friend at slightly under the market value. That helped offset the cost of upgrading to a refurb 15-in. pre-unibody Macbook Pro.

If Apple comes out with a G4 iMac style Intel Mac, I would buy one. I find the the style very cool.

As mentioned, I'd get the screen on EBay. Seems affordable enough..

Yup, been there, done that, but some years ago, but for a completely different reason and if you're somewhat Mac and handyman savvy it's quite doable, but be careful and do so carefully, but one of the secrets is finding the compatible screen for an affordable price.

I got lucky with a user's goofy display some years ago by calling various local Apple service providers who supplied the 20" display from an otherwise dead G4 flat panel for I believe under $100.00 which was a very excellent price deal at that time.

Having source to the proper Apple Service Guide helped and it seems that you can get a close variation at: iMac G4 repair guide

But "dark blotches" caused "from his young daughter hitting the display" Hmmmm...???? I don't know about that!!!!
