I have an Epson RX 595 which I use for CD printing occasionally.
Always worked just fine under OS 10.4.11.
Now I upgraded to Snow Leopard, 10.6. 4 is what I currently run, and now the CD printing on that Epson printer no longer works.
Initially I got the message that the driver for CD printing is not installed, so I downloaded the latest CD printing driver from Epson and installed that.
Still the same message - ie CD driver not installed.
I rebooted the Mac, turned the printer off and back on, still the same message.
Did some searches on the net - one was a suggestion using the manual print option on Epson CD print and selecting CD printing etc.
Followed all the steps - now I get a tiny wedge to print on the CD.
Anyone had that problem which seems to be around since the Leopard days...and have a solution I can try.
In a pinch I'll have to boot up my 11-year old G4 and use that, but I prefer to move forward with SL.
" Attention Epson Printer Users - Discus supports all the direct CD printing equipped inkjet printers like the Epson Artisan and R series, and if you follow these easy steps it is easy to get it to work, if you know a simple trick. ..."
"There are untrue rumors circulating that the Epson R series printers can only perform direct to CD printing with the Epson supplied software. The truth is any CD labelling program that has the correct coordinates for the R series printers - and they are all the same - can print to a CD or DVD if you set the correct settings in the printer dialogs. ... ..."
I hope that helps and my HP A-I-O missed out for direct disc labeling by a single model. But I still have proper super-sticky labels and a Stomper.
I had tried the last suggestion - Epson printing tips from a different website but with the same instructions and I got this:
The centered image was done with tray position 1; that other website stated one had to select tray position 2, that created the offset image at the bottom right.
I have no clue why it didn't print the whole graphic, the one it printed looks totally distorted.
Not too keen on Discus and having to caugh up another $35 or $40 for something that I already paid for.
I'm a bit leery to trash all the Epson files and folders and install everything again.
I recall at the beginning nothing worked with either the Epson CD that came with the printer or the software on the Epson site, can't remember which worked and which didn't.
Right now all the printing and scanning has been working fine all the time - I'm a bit concerned things will get worse if I start from scratch and right now I don't have the time to fiddle around with the software.
If nothing else comes up, I'm going to try printing on the CD using the old G4.
Just a bit of work moving cable around.
I gather that your other "normal" printing is working properly so maybe just try trashing the Epson "Print CD" application stuff, reboot and reinstall, but remember that Epson often wants the printer disconnected when installing new software and once installed, then connect the printer.
PS: I haven't used the Epson "Print CD" application or know of its abilities, but you might want to consider using some of the suggested software applications at least in demo mode and even see if any of them work for your setup.
And some can provide some pretty impressive results, but I guess it depends on your needs and extra software costs.
Well, I decided to try disk cover and that didn't work.
After I downloaded and installed the software, set up the disk inner diameter and created the label, then set up the printer dialogue to print to CDand all that, I get a message back when I try to print that the printer tray is in the wrong position.
Somehow the printer thinks I still want to print on paper even though I selected print on CD in the RX595 dialogue box.
OK, maybe try just printing to paper, but do a "Page Setup" first and then check the options and then use the print "preview" when selecting to print and have a look at what it says or shows.
And I'm a bit surprised that no other ehMac user with a similar Epson printer has provided any constructive input and I don't think I can help further without having a similar Epson 'direct-print' to CD/DVD disc printer.
I watched a movie and then decided, what the heck - let's just trash the existing Epson drivers and preferences I could find - (I just put them in the trash without emptying it so I could bring them back if need be) and download the latest printer and CD printer driver for 10.6 from the Epson support page.
Installed the two drivers and wonder of all wonders - CD printing now works like a charm.
Haven't tried regular printing, scanning and the SD card reader, I'll do that tomorrow.
In retrospect, it seems moving from Tiger to SL with Migration Assistant (many months ago) didn't work for CD printing, worked for regular printing and scanning.
