I have noticed similar activity with my GF's iMac but have yet to track it down. We are behind a router, and she has the built in firewall enabled as well, so I am pretty sure there is no unauthorised access as it were.

My best guess right now it something to do with rendezvous, or another network operation. If I turn my machine on and launch MSN messenger, I can hear her HD spin up.

Thus far, you can colour me stumped.

RtC,

Doing a look up on that IP address doesn't reveal much :

; <<>> DiG 8.3 <<>> @(null) 64.12.29.13
; Bad server: (null) -- using default server and timer opts
; (1 server found)
;; res options: init recurs defnam dnsrch
;; got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 6
;; flags: qr aa rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

You might want to check the activity logs (using the Console.app) as it gives a relatively verbose tracking of the actions.

I found this interesting snippet in looking at my logs. I run iCal and it schedules updates and tries to open various links. My location seems to work via an AOL address:

Found key: [key_not_in_db] for service nws
Found key: [key_not_in_db] for service nws
Found key: [key_not_in_db] for service ug
Found key: [CAXX......] for service aol
found good service: aol
service used: aol
2002-10-10 12:10:25.723 iCal Helper[2725] Launch of helper planned at : 10/10/02 13:10:25

So if you're running iCal, it'll run an update every few hours in the background. WeatherPop Advance presumably does the same as do other apps that either push or pull data from the net.

RtC,

Are you still running [email protected]? I know you were having problems with it in OSX 10.2.1 but maybe there is some residual activity going on behind the scene.

Just a thought.

Macman.

SETI still works flawlessly on my machine. There has to be some sort of conflict with your setup.
