I have an old USB external HD that I used to use for backing up my MAC. I now have a newer one and want to use my older HD for backing up the PC. How do I remove the formatting of that HD so the PC can use it? It is currently MAC OS X formatted and the PC cannot see the HD.
Connect the HD to your Mac via USB and open up the application Disk Utility. It's in the Application > Utilities folder on your Mac.
Click on the Erase tab and from the pull-down menu beside "Volume Format:" select Fat32. You can also rename the HD using the "Name:" field. Then click the Erase... button on the bottom right.
Thanks guys, the information allowed me to reformat the external HD.
