Can you upgrade the cpu in a Powermac G5?

I'm new to macs, and wondering if you can upgrade the cpu's in a Powermac G5? Mine has the PowerPC 7,2 dual processors...

Also, where can I find the specs on which processors will work with the different PowerMac G5's?

Thanks.

You cannot upgrade your processors in your Power Mac G5.

I was affraid of that. Still though, I just bought and installed 2 more gigs of Crucial ram in it, now that it has 3.5Gigs it's running alot faster.

Just trying to learn about Macs. Thanks!

The days of upgrading the CPU seem to be largely over, though perhaps as the G5s age that will change again.

I doubt it. Upgraded processors for the Power Mac G4's were available when said machines were still selling, and no G5-based upgrade has ever been designed and released. Releasing one now (or in the future) would be a worthless venture with few takers.

Apparently, the cpu in my 1st generation Powermac G5 is not soldered in (?) so, if there was an upgrade available, it would work.

None of the Power Mac G5's had their processors soldered to the logic board.

Then I think it has something to do with the daughter card.
