Time Machine Very Slow Backup

This just hasn't been my week with my mac.

For whatever reason time machine has decided it likes to back itself up at an amazingly zippy 1kb/minute. It just randomly decided this speed was acceptable.

I deleted the temporary backup file it created on time machine and tried to backup again with the same slow results. I have no virus protection running to slow it down.

Any suggestions would be great. Google, and the apple forums have not been too helpful in answering this question.

If this is the initial TM backup it will take quite a while, depending on the size of data on your HD. My first took about 5 hours... maybe longer.

By deleting a file then re-starting you are starting at the beginning all over again. Give it time. Subsequent (hourly) backups are almost non-detectable.
