ibook refuses to print more than two pages - ever!

I have a Samsung ml-4600 laser printer connected via USB to an Ibook 800mhz G4. It worked great for years, but now, no matter which application I'm using (TextEdit, Word, Powerpoint, Safari), the printer only prints two pages. Even if I print using the printer as a shared device from my powerbook, it'll only print TWO pages! The print queue shows the file 'passing through' and then disappearing once the printer starts printing, as if all is fine, but only two pages ever come out.

I've tried:

  • printing ranges instead of just selecting 'all'
  • tried different applications
  • switched USB ports and cable
  • uninstall and reinstalled driver from Samsung
  • removed and re-added printer to printer list
  • removed the printpref preference files from library/prefs
  • repair disk permissions
  • update all OS X software (to 10.4.10)
  • re-installed OS X tiger from the DVD
Now, I can print from a different powerbook using a direct cable connection and it'll print no problem, so the problem is limited to this 800 mhz g4 ibook.

This just started happening, any ideas?

thanks

Kevin

Hi Colbalt, thanks for the note. I am not sure if it's the printer. I can hook up my powerbook to it and it prints quickly and unlimited pages. I am sure there is some little glitch somewhere that I'm overlooking. I've updated the drivers and haven't found any useful advice on Samsung's site (the scouring continues.)

thanks,

You probably already checked this but I'll suggest it anyways.

I let my friend borrow my macbook and he hooked up his laser printer to it. It recognized it without a problem. But, when he tried printing, it would only print the first page every time.

This was an easy fix since I like to print double-sided and had set my PRESETS (pull down box right under printer) to print only odd pages. All he had to do was put it back to STANDARD.

Don't know if that's the same problem your having, but it doesn't hurt to double check.
