sleepimage

Is there a way that I can safely clear my system's sleepimage file? Or maybe I need to be educated on it a little more. All I know is that it seems to be occupying 1GB.

How much RAM do you have in your machine?

The point of a sleepimage is that, when running on reserve battery power, it stores what contents are in the RAM to the harddrive as to not run the battery down even more by using the RAM.

If you use a portable.. I wouldn't delete it.

If you're using a desktop that doesn't run on Battery, from all accounts I can remember, you can delete it. But.. I would have to do a little more research on that first.

Understood completely. Thanks.

Its a portable with 1GB RAM, soon to be 2GB. I assumed I knew what it meant (I was right) but I was unsure if this file would re-generate itself upon sleep or if its a permanent fixture (ie: is it a static 1GB or is that a collection of hundreds of sleep instances).

I think (not for sure) that it wouldn't regenerate upon sleep. But, probably after a restart.

And, I'm also pretty sure that it's a static amount, directly related to how much RAM is in your machine.
