Quicktime error message: (no picture)

Hi All:

When trying to view streaming QT media (i.e. Movie Trailers from apple.com) I am unable to get any video stream. It does not display the standard QT symbol with a question mark, it simply displays a black box around where the video should play, with the message: " (no picture) " in the center.

Using OS X 10.4.8, Quicktime 7, on an iMac G5 2.0

Also installed: VLC Player and Flip4Mac.

I've reinstalled QT, flip4mac and VLC, and no change.

I had wondered if there was a conflict with one player trying to be the "default player" but have no idea where to start on that.

Any ideas?

Check your Flip4Mac preferences and see if you have "create streaming movies" checked. If so, uncheck it, or, if it's not checked, check it and see if that makes a difference. I've just gone to view a trailer on the the apple site to make sure it works as it has in the past for me, and everything is fine. Black QT box appears, then progress bar begins to move across the bottom of the screen, then video playback starts shortly after.
Another thing you might try, and this is very easy, create a new, admin enabled, user account, install only Flip4Mac, and then test a/v playback from the apple trailer site. Could be that there's a conflict in your other user system that causing weirdness. If it works fine in the new account, then you have a good clue that's what is going on.
