Why did the text start overlapping all of a sudden?

Here's a screen shot.

On another note, I'm trying to change a pesky icon and the file type is .icns. When I paste it in the info window (I do generally have success with icons), the image appears, but has a black background. Any ideas?

I have seen that overlapping text on ehMac as well.

I just close the browser and start again, or in worst case, reboot the Mac and the problem goes away.

You may also want to repair permissions.

Anyone else? I've dumped everything and reloaded Safari from my wife's Pb, and still goofy. Mostly here at this site, and ones similair, but I can't tell you how frustrating it is.

I've deleted every preference for Safari that I know of, searched online for other solutions and tried them, but to no avail. I'm gonna snap!

Have you tried a different browser?
Does that give you the same problem?
What version of safari and what OS are you running?

Safari Version 2.0.3 (417.8) and Tiger. All is up to date.

It doesn't do it with Firefox, but ever since Tiger, I haven't used it. I prefer Safari, but it looks like I'll just have to switch.

mmmh.......

I'm one version behind on both, Safari 2.0.2 and OS 10.4.3.
I have seen a similar problem on ehmac, but not quite as bad and a long time ago.

I wonder if anyone else is running Safari 2.0.3 and OS 10.4.4...there must be lots of people - maybe they can comment if they have seen (or not seen) this problem.

Oh well, I'll just have to settle for Firefox. Not that it's not good, just different.

I don't know if this has changed under Tiger and v2 of Safari, but if you enable the Debug menu in Safari there is an option to use something called ATSU ("Use ATSU for all text"). I can't remember much about what it was intended to do but it is supposed to be a method of recognising and rendering text. It worked poorly at best under Panther. For me, some pages were a little off, some were completely unreadable. May be worth checking to see if this is checked.

You may want to see which font and text coding Safari is using by default and changing it for the sake of testing. I could also be completely off base. ^_^
