This type of problem could be caused by a USB device, or maybe even other devices. What do you have hooked up?

Try unplugging your devices and see if that fixes the problem.

Suggestion .....
Fire up activity monitor to see what's running. It may help you isolate a process that is preventing the machine from sleeping.

Can you force it to sleep by typing option-command-eject?

Have you tried booting from an external hd or cd to see if the problem still exists. This should at least let you determine if the problem is hardware or software.
