Illustrator Transparencies in Acrobat

Hi everyone. I'm trying to send some files to a client as Acrobat files - saving them as a PDF in Illustrator. I have several transparent blocks of colour which overlap each other but when the client opens them in Acrobat 7, he can't see the transparencies. Am I saving the file wrong? What can be done?

Please help! Thanks.

Probably the safest way to export a PDF that will display correctly i've found is to:

1) Save the file as a PDF from Illustrator as an Acrobat 5 file and choose the view PDF after exporting box
2) File opens in Acrobat. Make sure everything is appearing as intended. If it is, choose "optimizie file size" from the file menu and this in turn resaves your file from Acrobat again to your target directory

This method I have found (even though it is a few extra steps) ensures everything appears the same on the Windows platform as far back as version 5.

Thanks for your reply, mpuk. Unfortunately, I can't see this option under the file menu! Is there not some way of doing it in Illustrator? I've never had this problem before and I've sent similar files to people on PCs so I just can't figure it out.
