print server with os 9.1

i'm trying to run my serial printers on a g3 running os 9.1 and i'd like to be able to print documents off of another g3 running panther. i have both of these boxes on a network and i have tried to create an IP printer in panther with the i.p. address of the g3 running 9.1. this isn't working at all. any suggestions on how i need to configure this from both the os 9.1 end as well as the os 10.3 end?

obviously, i've made the serial printer my default printer on 9.1 and i've turned the printer to shared printer. where am i going wrong? are there any docs on-line for setting this up? i've poked around but can't find anything. thanks for your help in advance all of you helpful mac geeks!

You can't do IP printing like that. Not sure if you can share printers from OS9 -> OSX .. think the mechanism is a little different. If they don't show as shared printers in Panther already not sure what to suggest.

reall?!? how dissapointing. i've shared a printer using a parallel connection to a win box with print commands coming from panther. it would be sad for it to not work with a 9.1 box .. . .

I suggest the searching on the apple support site to see if it supposed to work (I suspect not). OSX uses CUPS printing, OS9 didn't. From what I remember the OS9 printer sharing was a bit oddball (in that it wasn't a 'standard' and was an OS9 only thing).

my travels on the apple discussion pages took me to this site:

i will try to install this on my os 9.1 box. it looks very promising. seems to be a pretty nice solution to os 9 - os x printing compatibility issues.
