G4 PowerMac & Mac OSX Help

I got an old G4 PowerMac from a friend. And he gave me the OSX Install disks for his G5 PowerMac.
I opened the cd drive, and put in the cd. But the cd does not pop up, its like the computer doesnt recognize it. Im not sure how to fix it. Or what steps I should take.

If anyone can offer any advice I would appreciate it!
Thanks.

P.S.
My version on the PowerMac is the G4 QuickSilver 2002 Edition (if it makes a difference)

You mean the discs don't mount on the desktop? First off, the discs from his Power Mac G5 won't support G4 systems, so that rules out using them, regardless (though they should still mount on the desktop). Also, his discs will be on DVD - does your G4 have a DVD-capable drive? (if you don't, DVD's are typically ejected automatically after a minute or two if placed into a non-DVD capable drive)

No, they dont mount on the desktop. And Im not too sure if it has a DVD drive.
If i was to get normal OS X Install disks (like ones that werent for the G5) would they work.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Edit: I just checked if I had a DVD drive. And no I dont.

No DVD drive is your problem.

Any retail discs will work in your G4, assuming they're not DVD.
