There's an APE plugin called FullScreenSafariAPE which does exactly what you want.

You can read about it here and download it from here

Thanks Adam, it does sound like FullScreenSafari will do what I want. My only problem with this solution is that I'm somewhat leery about installing APE on my system. I remember using it in Jag and very quickly getting rid of it because of instability and weird behaviour.

It was pointed out to me by friend that the Safari windows won't be offset, if the first window is opened to within 1/4 inch of the bottom of the screen. This seems to be true. The space that I had left at the bottom was a bit more than that before.

I have APE on my setup and it seems quite stable. I think the programers had to rework it because of the way Panther was changed vs. Jaguar and that made it less intrusive. Using it to mess with the dock here.

Thanks, Orion. Maybe I should try APE again. I'll look into it.

Just curious, what kind of behaviour do you expect from this hack when you click on a link and it opens a window with a specific size/position via javascript? Should it ignore the settings as given by the web page author, and resize/reposition the window so that it's the same size as the previous window, or should it only reposition (not resize) the window so that the upper left corner lines up with the previous window, or should it not do anything in this case (ie, only modify the behaviour of windows that were opened via the New menu or through cntrl-clicking and pressing "open new window with this link")?

The reason I'm asking is because I've just implemented this functionality in taboo (www.ocdev.com - although I haven't released the new version yet), and was wondering what type of behaviour you would expect from this kind of plugin. Thanks,

Adam

Personally, ideally, I would like my windows to open all at the same size that I have set, and to open in the same position directly on top of each other, without being offset or cascading.

I think most windows open at a size that the user sets, but some special windows (and things like pop-ups) open at different sizes, some don't even have scroll bars or re-sizing handles on them. I don't know what I would expect for them, I guess in most cases those different windows have been designed like that for a reason.

So I guess I would expect the hack to open only the normal windows to my specifications.
