How large a partition for the Tiger OS?

I have a 160G external drive that I want to partition into three chunks - one for the Tiger OS only, one for backup and the rest for additional storage.
Question is how large should I make the partition for Tiger? I had one at 15G, but that seems much bigger than I need. Do I need some 'free' space on the partition for Tiger (like on the hard drive in general), or does that not apply? And I assume Tiger updates will increase the size of the file beyond what Tiger requires today.
Any recommendations as to the partition size?

In my opinion, you shouldn't use much more than 85% of your startup volume, to keep room for virtual memory, and any expansion (as you said). If you are not storing any data on your Tiger partition (your home folder will reside in another partition), 10 or 15 GB should suffice. Otherwise, make two 80 GB partitions, one for your day to day work, and the other one for your backup.
