Red face Damaged iTunes library, iPod syncing question

I managed to corrupt my iTunes library, and have lost everything (play-lists, play-counts etc)

1) I was wondering if there was anyway to repair a damaged iTunes Library file?

2) Baring that, is there anyway to get all the info I lost off my iPod? I had my iPod set up to sync identically with iTunes. Theoretically, all the play-counts, ratings, and play-lists should be on my iPod.

The problem is, I had it set to automatically sync on connect. This means I connect my iPod, it's going to automatically wipe all the info off of it (since my iPod is always an exact copy of my iTunes library).

I can't change this preference w/o my iPod attached to the computer, or at least, I haven't been able to find a way.

Is there a button I can hold down, or something I can do to prevent the auto-syncing, so I can get all my play-lists off of my iPod and onto my computer?

Hold down command-option while plugging in the iPod. This is supposed to override auto-sync, but I haven't tried it myself. One guaranteed way is to plug it into a computer it isn't associated with and change the preferences there.

Once you've done that, iPodRip has a "sync metadata" feature that should do what you want. www.thelittleappfactory.com

you can always creat a new user account, plug in yer ipod and it will pop up with a message saying "this ipod is linked to another dynamic library... do you want to associate this ipod with this library..."

SAY NO

then the ipod will show up in the source list in itunes.... change the preferances there to manually manage songs and playlists

from there... check out this post to move yer music from the ipod back to yer beloved mac
